The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Indonesia Season 18 (MPL ID S18) is underway, once again bringing together some of the biggest organisations and players in one of MLBB's most established competitive regions.
Nine teams entered the season with the same objective: survive the Regular Season, reach the Playoffs and ultimately earn the right to represent Indonesia on the international stage.
Running from August 14 to October 18, the Regular Season is only the first step.
At the end of the campaign, six teams will remain in contention for the MPL Indonesia title — and two places at the M8 World Championship.
Nine teams enter Season 18
MPL Indonesia Season 18 features nine organisations competing across the Regular Season:
- Alter Ego
- Bigetron by Vitality
- Dewa United Esports
- EVOS
- Geek Fam
- Natus Vincere
- ONIC
- RRQ Hoshi
- Team Liquid ID
The field combines some of Indonesia's most historic MLBB organisations with teams looking to establish a new position at the top of the league.
With only six Playoff positions available, three teams will see their season end before the final bracket even begins.
Nine weeks to reach the Playoffs
The MPL ID S18 Regular Season uses a Double Round Robin system.
Every team faces each opponent twice, creating a long-term test where consistency matters just as much as individual victories.
| Regular Season | Format |
|---|
| Teams | 9 |
| Dates | August 14 – October 18, 2026 |
| System | Double Round Robin |
| Matches | Best of 3 |
| Matches per Team | 16 |
| Playoff Qualification | Top 6 |
All Regular Season matches are played as Best of 3, with teams earning their position through match victories across nine weeks of competition.
The format leaves little room for prolonged inconsistency.
A difficult weekend can be recovered from, but over the course of 16 series, the standings eventually reveal which teams are ready to continue into the postseason.
Finishing in the Top 2 changes everything
Simply reaching the MPL ID Playoffs is not enough.
Regular Season placement has a major impact on the road each team must take once the postseason begins.
The teams finishing third through sixth enter the first Playoff round, where defeat immediately ends their tournament.
The Top 2 Regular Season teams, however, receive a direct bye into the next stage.
That means the battle at the top of the standings is not only about prestige — it removes an entire elimination series from a team's path toward the Grand Final.
A hybrid Playoff format
MPL Indonesia Season 18 uses a Hybrid Elimination structure for its six-team Playoffs.
The opening round acts as a Single Elimination stage for the teams seeded from third to sixth.
Only after those matches does the tournament transition into a Double Elimination bracket.
| Playoff Stage | Format |
|---|
| Seeds 3–6 | Start in Round 1 |
| Seeds 1–2 | Receive a Round 1 bye |
| Round 1 | Single Elimination |
| Later Rounds | Double Elimination |
| Standard Playoff Matches | Best of 5 |
| Lower Bracket Final | Best of 7 |
| Grand Final | Best of 7 |
For the lower-seeded teams, there is no safety net in the opening round.
Win, and the Double Elimination stage awaits.
Lose, and the season ends immediately.
Once the remaining four teams are established, a first defeat sends a team into the Lower Bracket, while a second ends their championship run.
Bigetron enters as defending champion
Season 18 follows a historic MPL ID Season 17 campaign that ended with Bigetron by Vitality lifting its first MPL Indonesia championship.
Bigetron defeated ONIC in the Season 17 Grand Final to claim the title and enter the new season as defending champion.
But a new split resets the battle.
Past results can establish expectations, but every team must once again prove itself across the full Regular Season before the Playoffs determine Indonesia's next champion.
A field full of familiar names
MPL Indonesia has long been home to some of the most recognisable organisations in Mobile Legends esports.
Names such as ONIC, RRQ Hoshi and EVOS carry years of domestic and international history, while organisations including Team Liquid ID, Alter Ego, Bigetron by Vitality, Geek Fam, Dewa United and Natus Vincere continue to create their own stories within the league.
That depth makes qualification itself a significant challenge.
With nine teams fighting for six Playoff positions, established reputation alone cannot guarantee a postseason appearance.
Every series matters.
The road to M8 goes through MPL Indonesia
The MPL Indonesia title is not the only prize waiting at the end of Season 18.
The champion and runner-up will both earn qualification to the M8 World Championship, giving Indonesia two representatives on MLBB's biggest international stage.
The path is therefore clear:
Regular Season → Top 6 → MPL ID Playoffs → Top 2 → M8 World Championship
For the teams still in contention, every point gained during the Regular Season brings them closer not only to a domestic championship, but to the opportunity to compete against the world's strongest teams.
More than Rp4.8 billion on the line
MPL Indonesia Season 18 features a total prize pool of approximately Rp4.86 billion IDR.
But in a league with such a strong competitive history, the season is about more than the financial reward.
An MPL Indonesia championship carries domestic prestige, while a Top 2 finish opens the door to the international stage.
For players and organisations, Season 18 represents another opportunity to add their names to one of MLBB's most competitive regional legacies.
