The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Malaysia Season 18 (MPL MY S18) is underway, bringing eight of the country's leading organisations back together for another race toward the national title.
Running from August 14 to November 1, the season takes teams through an eight-week Regular Season before the six strongest move on to the Playoffs and the CelcomDigi Dream Stage.
The stakes extend beyond Malaysia.
The two teams that reach the end of the Playoff journey will earn the right to represent the country at the M8 World Championship in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Eight teams, eight different stories
Season 18 is the second MPL Malaysia campaign under the league's Partnership Programme, built around eight permanent partner organisations.
The Season 18 field features:
- Selangor Red Giants
- Team Vamos
- Team Rey
- RRQ Tora
- Bigetron MY by VIT
- AC Esports
- Invictus Gaming
- Team Flash
Each arrives with a different objective, but the destination is the same: survive the Regular Season and earn a place on the Dream Stage.

Eight weeks of Regular Season competition
The Regular Season uses a Double Round Robin format, meaning every organisation faces each of the other seven teams twice.
All series are played as Best of 3.
| Regular Season | Format |
|---|
| Teams | 8 |
| System | Double Round Robin |
| Matches | Best of 3 |
| Win | 1 point |
| Loss | 0 points |
| Playoff Qualification | Top 6 |
Across an extended Regular Season, consistency becomes essential.
A strong opening weekend can establish momentum, but every team must continue producing results across multiple weeks before the final standings determine the six Playoff participants.
For two teams, the journey will end on October 18.
For the remaining six, the Dream Stage awaits.
Regular Season placement changes the Playoff path
Qualifying for the Top 6 is only the first objective.
Where a team finishes during the Regular Season has a major impact on how its Playoff campaign begins.
The teams seeded third through sixth must compete immediately in Round 1, where the tournament still operates under Single Elimination rules.
The Top 2 teams, however, receive a bye and advance directly into the Double Elimination portion of the bracket.
That makes the battle for the top of the standings especially valuable.
A Top 2 finish removes an entire elimination series from the road to the Grand Final.
Hybrid Elimination on the Dream Stage
MPL Malaysia Season 18 uses a Hybrid Elimination Playoff system.
The opening round is unforgiving for the lower seeds.
One defeat means elimination.
Once four teams remain, however, the tournament moves into Double Elimination, giving teams another route through the Lower Bracket after their first loss.
| Playoff Stage | Match Format |
|---|
| Seeds 3–6 | Start in Round 1 |
| Seeds 1–2 | Receive a Round 1 bye |
| Round 1 | Single Elimination |
| Final 4 | Double Elimination |
| Standard Playoff Matches | Best of 5 |
| Lower Bracket Final | Best of 7 |
| Grand Final | Best of 7 |
The structure rewards teams that perform throughout the Regular Season while still creating space for long Lower Bracket runs once the final four are established.
By the final weekend, the last two teams standing will meet in a Best of 7 Grand Final.
Malaysia sends two teams to M8
The Grand Final is not only about the MPL Malaysia trophy.
Both finalists will secure qualification to the M8 World Championship, giving Malaysia two representatives at the biggest MLBB event of the season.
The competitive pathway is straightforward:
Regular Season → Top 6 → MPL MY Playoffs → Top 2 → M8 World Championship
For every organisation in the league, reaching M8 requires surviving one of Southeast Asia's most competitive domestic environments first.
Six teams will reach the postseason.
Only two will continue onto the world stage.
Selangor Red Giants defend the crown
Season 18 begins with Selangor Red Giants once again holding the MPL Malaysia title.
SRG defeated Team Vamos in the Season 17 Grand Final, extending one of the most dominant domestic runs in Malaysian MLBB history.
But the international season showed that domestic dominance does not guarantee results beyond Malaysia.
At MSC 2026, Team Vamos produced Malaysia's stronger run, while SRG exited before the Knockout Stage.
Those contrasting performances add another layer to Season 18.
The defending champions remain the team everyone wants to defeat, but the rest of the league has already shown that the competitive gap is capable of changing quickly.
A new era for MPL Malaysia
Season 18 also continues the league's transition into its new Partnership Programme.
After years under an open competitive model, MPL Malaysia moved into a structure built around eight long-term partner teams beginning in 2026.
The change is designed to provide greater stability for organisations while allowing teams, commercial partners and the league itself to develop across multiple seasons.
That stability does not reduce the pressure inside the server.
With only six Playoff positions and two M8 slots available, every partner still has to earn its place when competition begins.
The Dream Stage awaits
For eight weeks, the objective is qualification.
After that, everything changes.
The six remaining teams will move from the MPL MY Arena into the decisive Playoff phase, where longer series, elimination pressure and international qualification turn every draft and every game into something bigger.
For four teams, the Dream Stage will eventually mark the end of the season.
For two, it will become the beginning of a World Championship journey.
And for one, it will end with the MPL Malaysia Season 18 trophy.
