The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines Season 18 (MPL PH S18) is underway as one of MLBB's most decorated regions begins another race toward the world stage.
From August 21, eight franchise teams entered the competition looking to secure a place in the Playoffs, challenge for a share of the $150,000 prize pool and, ultimately, claim one of the Philippines' two qualification slots to the M8 World Championship.
For a region with multiple international titles behind it, another MPL season means more than deciding a domestic champion.
It determines who will carry the Philippine flag into the next World Championship.
Eight teams enter Season 18
MPL Philippines Season 18 features eight organisations competing at the highest level of Philippine MLBB:
- AP.Bren
- Aurora Gaming PH
- Omega Esports
- ONIC Philippines
- Team Falcons PH
- Team Liquid PH
- TNC Pro Team
- Twisted Minds PH
The field combines world champions, established MPL organisations and rebuilt rosters looking to disrupt the existing hierarchy.
Among them is Team Liquid PH, entering Season 18 as the defending MPL Philippines champion after defeating Team Falcons PH in the previous season's Grand Final.
Eight weeks to reach the Playoffs
Before the championship bracket begins, all eight teams must survive an eight-week Regular Season running from August 21 to October 11.
The stage uses a Double Round Robin, meaning every organisation faces each opponent twice across the season.
All matches are played as Best of 3.
| Regular Season | Format |
|---|
| Teams | 8 |
| Dates | August 21 – October 11, 2026 |
| System | Double Round Robin |
| Matches | Best of 3 |
| Points for a Match Win | 1 |
| Points for a Match Loss | 0 |
| Playoff Qualification | Top 6 |
With only six Playoff positions available, two teams will see their campaign end after the Regular Season.
But simply reaching the Top 6 is not the only objective.
Where a team finishes can significantly change its road through the postseason.
The Top 2 earn a major advantage
Regular Season placement becomes particularly important at the top of the standings.
Teams finishing first and second receive a bye through the opening Playoff round and enter directly into the Double Elimination stage.
Teams seeded from third to sixth, however, must first survive a Single Elimination series.
For those four teams, there is no second chance.
One defeat ends the season before the safety of the Lower Bracket becomes available.
This makes the battle for the Top 2 almost as important as the fight to qualify itself.
A Hybrid Elimination Playoff
MPL PH Season 18 uses a Hybrid Elimination format that combines an unforgiving opening round with a Double Elimination bracket for the final four teams.
| Playoff Stage | Format |
|---|
| Seeds 3–6 | Start in Round 1 |
| Seeds 1–2 | Receive a Round 1 bye |
| Round 1 | Single Elimination |
| Final 4 | Double Elimination |
| Standard Playoff Matches | Best of 5 |
| Lower Bracket Final | Best of 7 |
| Grand Final | Best of 7 |
The third seed faces the sixth, while fourth meets fifth in the opening round.
The two winners advance to meet the Top 2 seeds and enter the Double Elimination portion of the tournament.
From that point, one defeat sends a team into the Lower Bracket.
A second sends them home.
The final stages then increase the length of the competition, with both the Lower Bracket Final and Grand Final played as Best of 7 series.
Map selection adds another layer
Season 18 also introduces an additional strategic element through its Map Selection Rules.
Rather than every game being played under an identical battlefield configuration, series can involve different map variants and selection procedures.
In Best of 3 matches, the home team selects the opening map before the away team chooses a different map for Game 2. If a third game is required, the battlefield is selected from the remaining options.
Longer Playoff series expand this system further, forcing teams to prepare for multiple map environments across the same matchup.
For teams already dealing with draft adaptation, opponent preparation and long series, map selection adds another variable to master.
The Philippines' road to M8
Winning MPL Philippines remains one of the biggest domestic achievements in MLBB, but Season 18 has an even larger destination waiting beyond the league.
The MPL PH champion and runner-up will both qualify for the M8 World Championship.
The competitive pathway is straightforward:
Regular Season → Top 6 → MPL PH Playoffs → Top 2 → M8 World Championship
For six teams, reaching the Playoffs keeps the dream alive.
For four, surviving the opening stages creates a path through Double Elimination.
For the final two, the reward is a ticket to the biggest MLBB tournament of the season.
A region built on international success
The pressure attached to those M8 slots is amplified by the Philippines' history on the international stage.
Philippine teams have repeatedly established themselves among the strongest forces in competitive Mobile Legends, creating expectations that extend far beyond domestic results.
That history is visible throughout the Season 18 field.
Former world champions and internationally experienced players are spread across multiple organisations, while younger talent continues to emerge through the country's competitive ecosystem.
Every MPL season therefore serves two purposes: crowning the strongest team in the Philippines and deciding which rosters will carry that reputation into international competition.
$150,000 on the line
MPL Philippines Season 18 features a total $150,000 prize pool.
The financial reward accompanies a league title that already carries significant prestige within the global MLBB scene.
But with M8 qualification attached to the two Grand Final positions, the most valuable reward may be what comes after MPL PH itself.
Reaching the final means representing one of MLBB's most successful regions on the world stage.
Winning it means arriving there as the MPL Philippines Season 18 Champion.
