SEA Team Watch

Falcons, Team Liquid ID and Team Rey emerge as three teams to watch across Southeast Asia

From Team Falcons taking control of MPL Philippines to Team Liquid ID leading Indonesia and Team Rey challenging Malaysia's established order, three teams are making their mark as the Season 18 race intensifies.

The Season 18 race is entering a decisive period across Southeast Asia, and several teams are beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the field.

In the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia, three very different stories are developing.

Team Falcons PH has climbed to the top of MPL Philippines, Team Liquid ID is setting the pace in Indonesia, while Team Rey continues to challenge the established hierarchy in Malaysia.

Different teams. Different expectations. Three increasingly important runs.

Team Falcons take control in the Philippines

The battle at the top of MPL Philippines Season 18 has been one of the closest in the region, but Team Falcons PH has now taken control of the standings.

On September 27, Falcons completed a 2–0 victory over Aurora Gaming PH, improving their Regular Season record to 9–1 and moving into first place.

The result continued a run that has made Falcons one of the most consistent teams of the season.

Their only defeat came earlier in the campaign, while wins against teams including Team Liquid PH, ONIC Philippines and Aurora Gaming PH have kept Falcons at the front of the title race.

That becomes particularly important under the MPL PH Playoff system.

The Top 2 Regular Season teams skip the opening Single Elimination round and move directly into the later stage of the bracket.

For Falcons, staying at the top is therefore about much more than finishing first on paper.

It could make their path toward the Grand Final significantly shorter.

Team Liquid ID sets the pace in Indonesia

In Indonesia, Team Liquid ID has established itself at the top of one of MLBB's deepest domestic leagues.

Through the latest stage of the MPL Indonesia Season 18 Regular Season, Liquid holds an 8–1 match record, ahead of Alter Ego and Natus Vincere at 7–2.

The run represents a strong response from an organisation that entered Season 18 with a refreshed roster.

Liquid's current lineup features Aran, Kevin, Drichel, Keven and Lyoni, with Anaver also available in the squad.

The results have followed quickly.

Liquid opened the season with victories over Geek Fam and Dewa United and continued building momentum through the following weeks, putting itself in the strongest position in the race for Playoff seeding.

But Indonesia rarely allows teams to stay comfortable for long.

Alter Ego and NAVI remain close behind, while defending champion Bigetron by Vitality is still within the Playoff picture.

With several major matchups still ahead, Liquid's lead represents an advantage — not a guarantee.

Team Rey refuses to follow the script

Malaysia's most interesting Season 18 storyline may be happening just behind the defending champions.

Team Rey has emerged as one of the strongest challengers in MPL Malaysia, climbing into second place with an 8–3 record.

Their rise became impossible to ignore after a strong run that included victories over Team Vamos, Team Flash and Selangor Red Giants.

The biggest statement came on September 20.

Team Rey defeated SRG 2–1, handing the five-time consecutive MPL Malaysia champions another loss and proving that the gap at the top of Malaysia is far from untouchable.

SRG remains first at 9–2, but Team Rey is now close enough to turn the top-seed battle into a genuine race.

That is a significant change from a league that has spent several seasons under heavy SRG control.

Three very different rises

The three teams have reached their current positions in different ways.

Team Falcons PH entered the season as an established international-level roster and is now converting that experience into Regular Season consistency.

Team Liquid ID is showing how quickly a reorganised lineup can become competitive in Indonesia's demanding environment.

Team Rey represents something different entirely: a team pushing into a space normally occupied by Malaysia's biggest and most established organisations.

What connects them is timing.

All three are finding form as their respective leagues move closer to the stage where Regular Season performance begins determining Playoff advantages.

The importance of the Top 2

Across MPL Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia, finishing near the top of the Regular Season can dramatically change a team's championship path.

Strong seeding can mean fewer elimination matches, better bracket positioning and a clearer route toward the Grand Final.

For teams already competing at the top of the standings, maintaining momentum becomes increasingly valuable as the season progresses.

A strong first half creates an opportunity.

The second half determines whether that opportunity becomes a championship run.

Established powers are still waiting

None of the three races is finished.

In the Philippines, defending champion Team Liquid PH remains one of Falcons' main rivals, while ONIC Philippines continues to sit within striking distance.

Indonesia remains even more crowded, with Alter Ego, NAVI and Bigetron all competing around the upper half of the standings.

Malaysia still belongs to Selangor Red Giants until somebody proves otherwise, and SRG remains ahead of Team Rey despite their recent head-to-head defeat.

That creates a common question across all three regions:

Can the teams currently building momentum maintain it when the Playoffs arrive?
